Happy December, pals!

In wallpaper land, I’m ending off the year the way I started it — with a minimal, serene, wintery scene. The end of the year can be pretty stressful for a number of reasons, whether it’s preparing for the holidays, wrapping up end of the year projects, finding the perfect gifts for your family and friends, or trying to cram some last minute items on your year-long to-do list. Given the craziness that is often December, I thought that at least the wallpaper should be calming. :)

Thanks so much for following along with my monthly wallpaper series! I’ve now created two years’ worth of these wallpapers, and with another year coming to a close, I’m considering whether I want to keep making them next year or potentially change up the format. I guess you’ll have to check back in January to find out!

Hey, friends!

First, apologies about not doing an October wallpaper! Last month was, as they say in the biz, a bit cray cray. I started October off by speaking at WordCamp Toronto (video online soon, I hope!) and then a few days later I was off to Palm Springs for Designer Vaca, which was a whirlwind of fun and warm weather. Hopefully you found the 2013 edition in the archives to tide you over.

Now I’m back home and fall is in full force! I know that after Halloween lots of people go into Christmas/winter holiday mode, but I refuse to go there since it’s still perfectly fall-ish outside for a while longer.

It’s September already. How did that happen?

Whenever September comes around I feel like it’s “back to school” time even though I haven’t been a student in… let’s just say, a few years. It’s a nice feeling, though, because even though summer’s ending, it feels like a time of new beginnings.

This wallpaper’s a little different from the others, because I hand lettered it! It’s really fun to use your own writing in your designs instead of only using fonts. I’ve been trying out lots of styles so you’ll probably see lots more from me over the next little while! I used a Pentel Color Brush pen, which has a really interesting feel and lots of personality.

Whenever I make monthly wallpapers, I try to think of some symbolism that goes along with the month in question.

Sometimes it’s birthstones, sometimes it’s moons, sometimes it’s linguistic associations.

This time, though, I’m keeping it simple. It’s summer! It’s warm and sunny! Yay!
